The Native American Journalists Association will recognize members with awards for excellence in covering Indian Country during National Native Media Conference in Miami July 18-21.
NORMAN, Okla. — The Native American Journalists Association will present more than 230 awards recognizing members’ coverage of Indian Country during the 2018 NAJA National Native Media Awards Banquet in association with the 2018 NAHJ Convention in Miami, Florida July 18-21.
The annual competition recognizes excellence in reporting by Native and non-Native journalists across the US and Canada. NAJA received more than 500 entries across the following categories:
- Student Division
- Associate Division I – (Circulation below 5,000)
- Associate Division II – (Circulation 5,000 – 10,000)
- Associate Division III – (Circulation above 10,000)
- Professional Division I – (Circulation below 5,000)
- Professional Division II – (Circulation 5,000 – 10,000)
- Professional Division III – (Circulation above 10,000)
2018 NAJA-Medill Milestone Achievement Award
NAJA will present the 2018 NAJA-Medill Milestone Achievement Award to Mary Annette Pember during the NAJA Membership Luncheon and Business Meeting on Thursday, July 19. Luncheon tickets are $50 each and may be purchased online through the conference registration site.
2018 NAJA Richard LaCourse Award
NAJA will present the 2018 NAJA Richard LaCourse Award during the NAJA National Native Media Awards Banquet on Saturday, July 21 where Trahant will be the keynote speaker. Banquet tickets are $85 each and may be purchased online through the conference registration site.
Division winners will also be recognized during the banquet. Winners who are unable to attend the banquet and pick up their awards in person may request to have awards shipped to them at cost. For direct shipping, please email RebeccaLandsberry@naja.com and include your name, outlet, shipping address and the list of awards to be shipped. Please include division, category, outlet and recipient name for each.
Please submit any requested award corrections via email with the winner’s division, category, outlet, name and corrected information no later than Friday, June 15.
